Cinema Audio Society to Honor Phillip W. Palmer CAS with 2027 Career Achievement Award

LOS ANGELES — August 11, 2026 — The Cinema Audio Society today announced that it will honor Emmy Award-winning production sound mixer Phillip W. Palmer CAS with its esteemed 2027 Career Achievement Award. This prestigious recognition will be presented during the 63rd Annual CAS Awards on Saturday, March 6, 2027, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

“The Career Achievement Award is the Society’s highest honor, and Phillip’s decades of work behind the microphone represent the best of what our craft can be,” says CAS President Peter Kurland. “From the stage at Glee to the tension of Better Call Saul, Phillip’s ear for clarity and nuance has shaped some of the most acclaimed sound work in television. His service to this Society, and to Local 695, reflects a career built on generosity as much as talent. I’m thrilled that the CAS Board has chosen him as this year’s recipient.”

“I’m deeply honored to receive this recognition from the Cinema Audio Society,” says Palmer. “This career started with me working my way up from utility and boom operator, and every step since has been shaped by the people I’ve worked alongside. To be recognized by this community, people I respect enormously, means the world to me.”

Phillip W. Palmer CAS is one of television’s most accomplished production sound mixers, with a career spanning nearly four decades. Beginning as a sound utility and boom operator in 1988, Palmer became a Production Sound Mixer in 1999 and has since become a fixture on some of the industry’s most celebrated series. He won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Sound Mixing for his work on Glee and earned a CAS Award for his work on the series finale of Better Call Saul, “Saul Gone,” a series that brought him numerous Emmy and CAS Award nominations throughout its run. His credits also include The Old Man, Entourage, Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty, El Camino and Pluribus.

Beyond his work on set, Palmer has been a dedicated advocate for the sound community. He currently serves as Treasurer of IATSE Local 695, a former Vice President of the Cinema Audio Society and Governor of the Sound Mixers Peer Group of the Television Academy, roles that reflect his long-standing commitment to the craft and the professionals who practice it.

Palmer joins an illustrious group of past CAS Career Achievement Honorees including Skip Lievsay, Tod A. Maitland, Joe Earle, Anna Behlmer, Willie Burton, Peter J.
