Tom Kobayashi | Engineer/GM

Starting in the entertainment industry as an accounting clerk at a film lab after serving in World War II, Tom Kobayashi worked his way up to president and COO of Hollywood’s Glen Glenn Sound. He joined George Lucas in 1985 to oversee the new Skywalker Sound and the construction of its 153,000 square foot complex. To connect audio across multiple facilities miles apart, Tom and his team developed technology that would eventually lead to the company EDnet, allowing high quality audio to be transmitted in real-time over ISDN lines. After retiring, Tom served as a board member of Azusa Pacific University and helped develop their film program. He also served as CFO of Penteo, which developed 5.1 upmixing technology. The CAS extends our condolences to Tom’s family, friends, and colleagues.
