Jay Rose, CAS | Re-recording Mixer / Sound Designer / Author
Longtime CAS member Jay Rose passed away in March. In addition to his work as a re-recording mixer and sound designer, Jay was an author who wrote two textbooks on our craft: Audio Postproduction for Film and Video and Producing Great Sound for Film and Video (each with multiple editions). He also contributed articles to the CAS Quarterly, including one on Artificial Neural Networks and another on the “Laurel or Yanni” internet audio debate from a couple years ago. Jay wrote documentation for many audio products, articles for other publications, taught at Emerson College and Berklee in Boston, and worked in radio – winning multiple Clio awards. Jay once stated, “My whole career has been about telling stories with sound … or telling stories about sound. I have been very lucky.” The CAS extends our condolences to Jay’s family, friends, and colleagues.
